I can't believe that it is already December! My Birthday is tomorrow and Christmas is in a week! It is crazy how quick 2015 passed! Hopefully 2016 goes a bit slower! One of my favorite things for the year has been being able to work with SquareHue and swatch their amazing polishes! It has been an absolute pleasure working with them and I can not wait to see what the new year has in store for them! Let's get into the swatches because I may get a little sappy and I don't think you all want to hear it! :P

I got my nails done a week ago and I was holding off on swatching these till I got my nails done and all of that....you have no idea how bummed I was when I saw the state of my cuticles! They were and actually still are a mess and I mean they are embarrassing! So I had to think of an alternate plan for the swatches! I'm not pleased with how they are, but I didn't want to subject these stunning polishes to ugly fingers!

Up first is Bird Fling 2010 which is a gorgeous classic red creme 

When I first opened the box, I groaned a little bit because I don't wear red polish often. However though, I am in love with this polish. It's such a classic red creme polish that I can see myself wearing this quite often! 

Baby,Baby,Baby 2010 Jewel Toned Purple Shimmer

I can hear you internally groaning at the name. Once I read the swatch card, I know I groaned and the song was stuck in my head for HOURS. If you don't know what I am talking about, it's Baby by Justin Bieber. Yeah. lol 

This is such a classic purple in my opinion. I call it classic because it is one of the few polish colors that my Mom would wear when I was younger.

Olympiad 2018 Champagne Foil

I honestly was no expecting to like this polish when I saw that it was labeled as a foil. I mean, total me thing but this doesn't remind me of a foil polish at all. Foils to me are metallic, gaudy and just...I am not a fan of foil polishes to say the least. This though it quite lovely and I can definitely see myself wearing it quite often!


All of the formulas were pretty standard. They applied evenly and only needed 2 MAYBE 3 coats with Bird Fling 20103 if you applied it very lightly. The polishes dried rather quickly, meaning I didn't have much down time in between coats or waiting for my nails to fully dry from start to finish.

I think that this is a good trio of colors to end the year on! Part of me expected Christmasy polishes, but at the same time I am glad that they weren't the standard red, green and silver...because everyone in their brother is doing those colors. I am quite pleased!

In a post before the end of the year I am going to do a video post showing all of the polishes from the year so you can see them all together! I think it will be super fun to do!

Rock the 2000s with SquareHue November 2015!

The theme for November's SquareHue box was the 2000s Decade. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this collection honestly, so I was surprised that two out of the three polishes were named after major tragedies that happened in the United States. I guess, I will explain more with each polish. I like that there was one color theme through the whole box, it makes it feel...complete? Whole? I'm not sure, there is just something solemn about it. 

The polish that you see below is aptly named Never Forget 2001. I'm sure that you all can instantly see what this polish was named after. The September 11th attacks. 

This polish is a metallic silver polish that is opaque in two coats. 

Just like with all..or well most metallic polishes, you can see the brush strokes with the polish. The pinky and ring fingers are without topcoat so you can see the polish in all of its natural beauty and my index finger has a top coat on it, not that you can really tell. BUT regardless, this is a really nice polish even though it's named after something super depressing. 

Idol 2002 is named after you guessed it...American Idol, which first aired in 2002. 

So, as you can tell I have 4 fingers (I mean I really have 10 but don't tell anyone, our secret.) and they are all different. Let's pretend that my index finger is invisible because we will chit chat about that at the end after the swatches.
My middle finger has 3 coats of Idol by itself with nothing under it.
Ring Finger has 1 coat over Hurricane 2005

Pinky Finger has 1 coat over Idol 2002.

This is a silver glitter polish and like a typical glitter polish is a pain in the big ol booty to remove, but the effect is worth it in my opinion. 

I didn't find that this polish had much of a sparkle to it, it's pretty but it's nothing that is like WAH-BAM in your face like some of their previous glitters. It still is pretty though!

This last polish is Hurricane 2005 which is aptly named after Hurricane Katrina. Another absolutely devastating disaster that happened.
This is a dark steel gray..silver? polish and it can be opaque in 1 coat if applied semi-thick, but if you apply it thinly, you can get it opaque in two coats.
Once again, my index finger is the only one with a top coat so you can see the polish in all of it natural glory as well as with some extra shine. I would call this polish a satin maybe? It wasn't matte but it wasn't shiny either. 

The one thing that I noticed with these polishes is that they dried rather quick. I've found that a lot of SquareHue's polishes dried quickly, but since these are metallic polishes, they dry just like other metallic polishes. I decided that since they dry quick, I would throw my hand in at stamping again. I know that I am terrible at it, but I wanted to try anyways to show that these can be used for stamping. My results are below. 

Don't ask me what plate I used...well I used two actually. One of them (index finger) was the one and only Cult Nails stamping plate and the other came from one of those Fing'rs sets that you can get at Walmart. I always had trouble with the love image, but dang-it I wanted to try it because it was one of the more intricate designs that I had. I think I did an okay job with it. Plus the Chevron, yay it came out looking okay as well. I'm pretty pleased with how these turned out for a n00b. :D You can't see it but I am patting myself on the back! :D

SquareHue 1990s Decades Collection - October 2015

This months Squarehue box is based on the 1990s Decade. Since I was born in 1990, I was SUPER excited to see what was going to be in this box. I will tell you right off of the bat that I am feeling a little bit lukewarm about the collection as a whole. But we will talk about each polish first. 

Vogue 1990 

Shimmery Burgundy

2 coats

Be careful when you wear this, in the next two swatches you will be able to tell that this polish stains. Now, the staining does come off easily, but after I finished the swatches it took a little bit of scrubbing to get it off of the skin. 

Desert Storm 1991
Glossy Light Creamy Brown

2 Coats

The formula is nice and thick, but not thick to where it is hard to work with. Just make sure that when you apply this, you aren't applying it in a cold room because it will set pretty quick on you. This applied very easily and it didn't flood the cuticles or create a mess.

Y2K 1999

Shiny Gunmetal Grey
2 Coats

Be careful with this polish. The formula is thin, so it will definitely flood into your cuticles easily if you aren't careful. Other than that, the formula and the opacity of this polish is pretty impressive.


All in all, it's a pretty decent collection. While I do like the polishes, I'm not totally thrilled with the color selections for this month. I don't know, they just don't feel entirely 90s to me. Plus, it's kind of like Septembers collection, but slight differences. A different kind of red, a creamy brown instead of a creamy grey and a gunmetal instead of a chocolate brown. I just feel underwhelmed by this decades collection. Considering this was the one that I was looking forward to the most because I was born in 1990, and was probably a little over too excited. I mean, it's a total me thing, but I did hear from a couple of other people on facebook that they were pretty underwhelmed by this month as well.

Hopefully the 2000's decade box is pretty exciting! Here's to hoping for something new!

Hello Loves!

Why it has been taking me ages to get these swatches up to you is beyond me. I really have no idea why it has taken me...way to long considering I got these on the 2nd of the month. Shame on me!

This month, I was super excited...like way beyond excited to see what was going to be in this box because.. I mean it's the 1980s! It's gotta be exciting right? I'm not going to bore you with my ramblings like I always do so throw on some 80s music and lets see what we have got!

Vice 1984 - A wet concrete looking grey cream. 2 Coats

I'm not 100% sure but I think this polish is based on Miami Vice which premiered in 1984. The polish could be based off of Detective Ricardo Tubbs suit that he wears in the promo picture but once again, don't quote me on that! :P I definitely googled the heck out of it :P

Sierra Sunset 1985 - Shimmery Apple - 2 coats

I really have no idea what this is based on, Google turned up nothing. However! My Mom did say that she had a polish EXACTLY like this in the 80s, which made me chuckle because it brought back memories for her. Plus I mean, it's bloody gorgeous!

Deep Space 1988 - Deep Chocolate Brown with an Amber Shimmer - 2/3 coats. 

Deep Space is named after the 1988 Horror Movie where a demonic alien which devours humans and terrorizes a small town.  It has 1 star on Rotten Tomatoes. Hah

Boogie Down With SquareHue's 1970s Decades Collection!

I know, I haven't done a SquareHue post in a while. I have posted pictures on Instagram. I also tend to post them on snapchat as well, so if you want to add me there it's auttyw. #shamelessplug

For the month of August we have the ever fun Decade of the 1970s. Throw on your bell bottoms and strap on your platform shoes and lets see what we have!

First up we have a polish that everyone should have learned about in their history class. Watergate 1972.

This polish is a shimmery blue "microglitter" polish. This is a very sheer polish. It took at least 4-6 coats to achieve some type of opacity. You however will be surprised when the light hits this polish the right way, it becomes purple! Really, this is like a shimmery duochrome. Two polishes in one! This was actually the hardest for me to capture, I couldn't capture the purple shift AT ALL. 

This polish you should all recognize simply because it's name! iPolish 1976.

This polish is named after the year that Apple was founded! Apple is such an iconic brand and this White Creme polish is completely opaque in TWO coats. Really though, depending on how you apply it you could probably get away with one coat. I've been so mesmerized by this polish, in it's simplicity and blank nature. I'm loving that this was included in the box!

Let's head right into Night Fever 1977, throw some Bee Gees on and dance like you're at the Disco!

                                       

This polish just screams 1970's Disco Balls. This is a holographic glitter. It can be used ontop of polishes, one coat by itself of you can build it up (about 4 coats) to achieve a covered nail. This is a polish I would definitely suggest putting a topcoat over. The holographic-ness of it really came out when it had a shiny top coat applied!

I seriously am in love with this collection, I think this one has to be my favorite out of the past boxes. It's just so fun! The Duochrome of the blue, the cleanness of the white and the glitz of the glitter!

I know you're probably all "Autumn, what the heck is up with the single finger swatch?!" Well, I wanted to try and get this post up and all of my previous 4 finger swatches...turned out 100% blurry and complete crap and I thought this might be a bit easier for myself given my time frame of cranking this out. I promise the 1980's will be back to regular swatches! <3

SquareHue April 2015 - 1930's

I'm just gonna squeeze a small update in here. I know I'm late getting this up and getting May's trio up. Cloe has been extremely sick and I've not been able to get on my computer or really even check my email. I logged in to find 81 emails, just on my blog email. I'm going to try and work quickly to get fresh and new content with you all, as well as I'm going to try and catch up on all of the press sample reviews that I need to get up. Honestly, I'm so behind right now that it's ridiculously disgusting and it's extremely stressful to be so behind. I just beg you to understand and bear with me while I try and catch up! Hello Lovelies! I hope you all are doing swell! Today we have the SquareHue 1930's Decades Collection. I personally am super excited about the polishes that are in this months box! I ended up taking these to Busch Gardens with me to get some interesting and well, different shots of the polishes. I think I kind of succeeded with it! You tell me. 

First up we have Boardgame 1935 - Orange High Gloss Creme - 2 coats

Board games were introduced in 1935, so I think that this is a very fitting color as well as a very fitting representation of the year. Monopoly was pretty much the first board game that was marketed in the year. 

In the swatch, I used two coats of the polish. The polish applied easily, went on smoothly and didn't flood the cuticles. 

Tomorrowland 1939 - Purple High Gloss Creme - 2 coats

Tomorrowland was basically the technology or the "way of the future." It was based around the Worlds Fair of the 1939.

The polish was two coats and It was pretty easy to work with. I used the same amount of coats on each nail and you can see that they all look slightly different. I think that is so neat about this polish. I actually called it Barney Purple when looking it after top coating it. 

WPA 1933 - Turquoise/Teal High Gloss Cream - 2 Coats

On May 6, 1944 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Executive order creating the Work Progress Administration (WPA).The WPA put unemployed Americans to work in return for temporary financial assistance.

This is one of those colors that is such a huge biatch to photograph correctly. This definitely in my opinion is a blue based teal, but it could definitely be a turquoise at the same time. I think that it is the beauty of this particular color because it could potentially be two colors in one polish, depending on the lighting of course. 

I really enjoyed April's polishes. I actually loved all three polishes and I'm so obsessed with the names. Call me a sucker for History but I love looking into each of the names that each polish is based on. It's such a fun thing in my opinion. Plus, it shares History with everyone, which definitely doesn't hurt.

I didn't describe the formulas individually because they were all the same. All three polishes were easy to apply, they applied smoothly and didn't flood the cuticle of surrounding nail edges at all.

Hello hello hello! I hope you all are doing well! These swatches should have been up around the 6th of the month. I do want to apologize about these being up incredibly late. Unfortunately on the 3rd of the month we had to put Kyri down (don't cry autumn..don't cry)...so that was pretty tough for me because she was mine. Yes, I owned a dog. I went threw a few stages of just some kinds of ish. Then I think on about the 6th we adopted two cats from our local-ish shelter. I've been dealing with that and keeping an eye on Anya because she's never interacted with other cats before. The first night I got zero sleep because I was so stressed out because she was absolutely not impressed.Then on top of all of that I've been sick again. it's been a horrid year so far! However. I'm going to stop chatting about that at this moment because I don't want to distract anymore from the post itself. So I will go into everything at a later date and show you all the new kitties. Then on top of all of that I've been sick again. it's been a horrid year so far!

Also, before we get started, I want to say address the fact that these swatches are not on my fingers. I ended up messing my hand up and cut one of the cuticles pretty bad on my swatching hand and I had to let it heal. It's just about healed now, thankfully so regular swatches of other polishes and all of that jazz will happen again. I also kind of wanted to see how the reaction would be to swatches without a skin tone behind them.

Without further adieu, lets get this party started.

Tunic - 1910 - Semi-Sheer Peach

I found the application of this iffy. It was very uneven and spotty. It took 4 coats to get to this opacity. 

In the three nails (I kind of broke the 4th by accident), you can see that they all look kind of different and that's because of the coats. They all have 4 coats but I applied each differently. The left has just thin coats, the middle has 3 thin and 1 thick and the one on the left is 4 thick coats. As you can see, it's not entirely even still.

The polish was inspired by inspired by sheer tunics popular with fashionable ladies during the first couple years of this decade.

Kewpies - 1912 - Light Baby Pink

I kind of had the same consistency issues with Kewpies as I did with Tunic. This was about 4 coats and while you can't really see it in the pictures, this applied pretty uneven and spotty. I used thick coats and let the polish dry for a while before each coat.  I do however just love how soft and delicate this polish is. 

Kewpies are little cupid figurines. They originally appeared as comic characters in Ladies' Home Journal in the December 1909. In 1912 a German toy company J.D. Kestner decided to manufacture them as toys. Myself personally, I find them to just be kind of creepy looking.

War Crinoline - 1915 - Military Green 

This polish is my favorite out of the bunch. I am absolutely obsessed with Military green polishes like this. The consistency of this was NOTHING like the other two polishes. I could have gotten away with 1 coat of this polish BUT the nails I used were quite large, and I used two coats for pictures anyways.

In 1915 ladies drastically changed their outfits. The hem lines became higher, the skirts were narrower, and the collars wider. Some of the dresses looked very manly.

If you notice, I didn't mention anything about dry time because I didn't want to sound like a broken record repeating myself. As with all of the SquareHue polishes I've tried, these dry pretty dang quick. I was extremely impressed with the drying time of these. Kudos to SH for their pretty bad ass dry time. All of these are also high gloss finishes and do not have a top coat. 

I really love the inspiration behind each of these polishes and I think that the colors perfectly represent each year. Even though I did have application issues with Tunic and Kewpies, I would and will definitely use them again because they're definitely worth the extra coats.
