A while back Nouveau Cheap had posted a blog post about reverse washing her hair and you know I had to try it out. I mean, I was extremely curious about this particular method but I was also a bit apprehensive to try it out. I've tried the whole baking soda and vinegar mixture, plain baking soda and those two were definitely not or my scalp or hair.
Reverse washing is where you use your conditioner BEFORE you shampoo you hair. It sounds weird right? Well, I followed G.'s directions and left the conditioner in like I normally would. Without washing the conditioner out first, I used my shampoo to basically wash my hair. Now I don't know what I was expecting, but from right here..I will tell you this method is not for me. I didn't have any expectations going into this whole experiement other than hoping it didn't dry my hair out like crazy.
What bothered me the most when I got out of the shower is that my hair was ridiculous knotty and just hard to brush out. That by far is not a normal occurance for me, well it was when I was a child but not for many many moons. The next day my hair was a soft, but not as soft as it usually is. It was a bit coarse and just did not want to be tamed. Now usually I go about a week beore I wash my hair, but washing it this way I got maybe three before I wouldn't stand it anymore. It was just gross, it felt like my hair hadn't been washed in a month.
For myself personally, I wont be trying this again and I haven't since I initially tried it. However, don't let my negative experience sway you from trying it. Everyones scalp and hair is different and just like mascara it will work differently for everyone. I've read about quite a lot of people who love washing their hair like this, but it's just not for myself.

I am curious if any of you wash your hair like this, or have tried it in the past! Let me know in the comments!
Oh, the hair struggle! I tried conditioner washing for a while and it was just not good with my fine, easily-tangled hair. I may switch to a non-foaming shampoo at some point though just to try it out.
ReplyDeleteUh, I've never heard of this before! I do use baking soda/acv on my hair, sorry to hear it didn't work out for you!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of doing that before and probably won't try it. I wash my hair every day which I know is bad but I just can't stand my hair feeling oily.
ReplyDeleteToo bad this didn't work. I'm currently using Wen. I like it, but I'm not all that thrilled. I also never had dandruff, but now I do which is annoying. Before Wen, I could go 7-10 days without washing my hair, and I'm at 5-7 day's now. But it does make my hair feel hydrated which I need since my hair is super damaged. I got the best results from regular shampoo/conditioner when I washed my hair with the shampoo, rinsed, did a second shampoo, rinsed, put in conditioner, then let it soak in my hair about 10 minutes before I took a wide tooth comb to it, and rinsed it all out.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of reverse washing but I can't imagine how this would be better than regular washing
ReplyDeleteYou're actually the one I thought about when I was typing that out! I never did until recently either!
ReplyDeleteIt does and it feels made up too! It just made my way greasy! My scalp used to be like that but thankfully as I've gotten older, it's changed. Omg, don't even get me started on Wen, that was the worst thing I ever used on my hair! Bahaha, I'm the same! I'm about ready to shave it off now!
ReplyDeleteI didn't either until recently, when I read G.'s post. I'm assuming it's supposed to help your hair stay softer? I don't know, it just didn't work out!
ReplyDeleteMy hair is just like that! Sulfate Free shampoo's are better for their hair, but out of all of the sulfate free ones I've used I never found them different then a shampoo with sulfates in it. It's definitely a struggle! I'm about ready to cut mine off!
ReplyDeleteI agree! My hair doesn't get oily as quickly anymore, which I find fantastic because washing my hair is such a pain in the tush! I definitely wont be trying it again!
ReplyDeleteI tried Wen years ago and it was horrible on my hair, I just couldn't deal with it, it made my hair oily so quickly. I use Aussie 3 minute miracle on my hair and it makes my hair feel amazing! I might have to try double washing my hair and see how it goes! I need to get my hair cut badly before I decide to do anything because it's just a freaking mess!
