Years ago I saw Michelle Phan do a video on an exfoliator that she made herself for her Dry skin. Well, me being new into makeup, didn't realize that is was for dry skin, since she never said it in her video. So, I made it and used it. Once again, not realizing it, I knew I had oily skin, but at that time it was 10x worse than it is now. Anyways, long story short, I made my version to fit my skin better. (although I don't use this on my face anymore)
What I use this for is:
- Lip exfoliator
- I use it to exfoliate and moisturize my legs and arms before I shave
- I use it on Chris' back and it helps with his back acne (gross, but it works)
Those are really the 3 ways that I mainly use it. I don't do these everyday because it is WAY too harsh to use everyday. You can adjust this to fit your skin as well. :)
Basically I make this in a "big" batch, since I use it for more than one thing.
These are the normal measurements:
- 1/2 cup of Sugar. (I use Florida Crystals Organic Granulated Sugar. It does not have to be organic sugar. NO SPLENDA it has to be sugar)
- 2 Tablespoons of Honey (any kind will do)
- 3 Tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Utensils:
1. You are also going to need a CLEAN contained to mix and keep your mixture in.
2. Measuring spoons and measuring cups.
3. Something to stir your mixture with.
Steps:
- Add the Extra Virgin Olive Oil to your container.
- Next, add the honey. (doing this step AFTER the EVOO will help get ALL of the honey out of the utensil)
- Add the sugar
- STIR WELL
You basically can use this anywhere on your body. Just don't use it everyday! Its too harsh! Please remember that!
You can also adjust this to how you would make it, or what would suit you more. Like for me instead of 1/2 cup I use 1 cup of sugar. I also might increase the oil and honey depending if its not saturated enough.
DO NOT STORE IN THE FRIDGE! If you do it WILL harden. You don't want it to harden!
In reality you could use this on oily skin, but I honestly would not, that is just me though. Now also please remember just because it has oil in it, does not mean it will clog your pores. This can last up to 30 days, if you are making a small batch, or even longer depending on how much you make.
Now, I took a few pictures of mine and I want to tell you why mine looks a little funky. I added a little bit of water in mine. Why did I do that? I found that it was just a little bit too abrasive for my skin, since mine is being funky and being sensitive. So, I decided to add a little bit of water too mine. You don't have to do this, unless you want to mix it up every time you use it. (Which I don't mind) or you find that its too watery, since it will dissolve some of the sugar. I find that this is doing pretty well on my skin as of late. BUT if you do happen to have sensitive skin I would NOT recommend this, it will be 100% too abrasive for your skin. So please be careful and mindful of your type of skin.
Now, the other ways you can use this scrub is you can use it on dry, rough patches on your feet, for your own little home-pedi treatment. I'm going to have to start using it on my feet. Damn the Florida feet! haha.
Now in the pictures you can tell that I do use a pretty big container. I really do. Since I use this on large areas Im not afraid to make a lot. Also, I tend to have it over the span of a few months, so its not like it doesn't get used. Trust me it does :P.

Now, I couldn't get a good picture of it on my finger, since it does have water in it, it just wouldn't stay. Haha. But unless you want to dull the feel of it out, I would not suggest using water. I dunno, I just kind of like using water in it.
Without the water it should be more of a scrub texture instead of liquid, so please keep this in mind.
With this, I find that with the EVOO it is extremely moisturizing, same with the honey. :) Just remember if you do use this, follow up with a moisturizer if you feel the need too. I however don't feel the need for a lotion or moisturizer. I get plenty enough!
I've used this on my face and had no reactions too it, I just felt that the oil in it was a little too much for my skin, I did however use it once a week to once every 2 weeks depending on how I felt. My skin felt amazingly clean! You would just want to follow up with your face wash if you do use this on your face! I used this for quite a few months!
I've been using this elsewhere on my body for goodness probably 3 years. So, I know it works for me!:)
I hope you all enjoy this! <3 Let me know what you think! Or if you plan on trying it!
